To-Do List: Labor Day Weekend Edition

Let's face it: You're running on fumes.

The kids went back to school this week and what little "me" time you had before 6 a.m. has flown out the window. Your friends keep inviting you to home-shopping parties and you really, really hate The Pampered Chef. Since you're an overachiever who sits on five different boards, you have meetings scheduled every weekend for the next two months. Every time you try to finish a project done at work three new ones pop up.

We can't make your life any less hectic, but we can make it more fun. Besides, the thought of a three-day weekend just might be enough to get you through the day.

Eat ME
There are a bunch of Maine-made cheeses out there, and many of them are good. But when we want great, we buy Appleton Creamery. There's a reason why Brad, Caitlin and Fiona Hunter have won multiple awards for their cheeses. The chevre soaked in olive oil with garlic and herbs is a perfect snack for a late summer evening with a glass of wine.
When: Whenever
Where: We buy ours at the Orono Farmers Market. Click here for retail locations.

Drink ME
It's a little too early to think about Halloween, but we're already craving Shipyard's Smashed Pumpkin. Part of the Pugsley's Signature Series, this "coppery" spiced ale is a more sophisticated take on the popular Pumpkinhead.
When: After 5, please.
Where: On draft (Great Lost Bear has it) or in bottles from your local beer store.

Watch ME
If you liked "Steel Magnolias" on the silver screen, you'll love it on stage. Nathan Halvorson directs Penobscot Theatre Company's production of the chick-flick classic.
When: Through Sept. 20
Where: Bangor Opera House
Web: penobscottheatre.org

Wear ME
On Day 1 of kindergarten, your daughter came home asking why you didn't buy her a lace-trimmed leopard-print miniskirt like her friend Debbie has. Unfortunately, "Debbie's mom has no taste — have you seen those bangs?" isn't really an acceptable answer, but a trip to The Mad Hatter Children's Fashions is. Owned by Maine mom Harmony Allen, this lovely little boutique carries perfectly adorable – not tacky — kids clothes.
Where: Bangor Mall
When: Daily
