Silver Drops

The way this month is starting out is really living up to the whole "April showers" adage. At least, it is in Orono at 7 a.m. But rather than dwell on the complete lack of umbrellas in our house, we'd rather think about these raindrop-inspired earrings by Portland silversmith Judy Babin.

Babin is a librarian by day, jeweler by night. She takes two distinct approaches to design: her wire-wrapped pieces are heavy and substantial, while her hammered pieces — such as these earrings — are feather-light and delicate. We love them both. But why not see for yourself at her Web site or on Etsy.

What else are you going to do on a rainy April day?
