Maine To-Do List: 1.8.10

Happy new year! The Maven is waaaaay out of town this weekend, for her annual January pilgrimage to Manhattan, but if she were around, here are a few of the things she'd be doing:

Eat ME
WO's BBQ, a Verona Island summertime favorite, recently opened up a year-round joint on Center Street in Bangor and we are DYING to visit. WO's, owned by Charley Wentworth, is known for its fresh garlic barbecue sauce, and our friend Deb swears by their baked beans and slaw. Mmmmm.
When: Now
Where: 97 Center St., Bangor
Web: http://www.wosbbq.com/

Drink ME
Brian Smith of Oyster River Wine Growers is working to coax white wine grapes from the soils of Warren, and his estate grown wines should be ready for 2010. In the meantime, if you see a bottle of Oyster River Petit Sirah anywhere, buy it. It's a rare treat. This smooth, complex red shows Smith's chops as a vintner.
When: as soon as you can find a bottle

Where: 929 Oyster River Rd., Warren

Listen to ME
There is nothing like Greg Brown's haunting, rattling, storytelling songs. Good thing Maine is one of his favorite haunts. This weekend, he comes to One Longfellow Square. (photo from www.gregbrown.com by Greg Wood)

When: 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8
Where: One Longfellow Square, Portland

Night ME
Drinking, dancing and general revelry is all in a night's work for Shakespeare. Join in the fun at "Twelfth Night: a Feast of Music, Dance and Poetry" at the U-U church of Brunswick.
When: 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9
Where: 15 Pleasant St., Brunswick
