Gifted Hand Giveaway

Here at the Maven, we're gearing up for our Angela Adams bag giveaway — the contest starts next week and details will be revealed Monday. But we're not about to let that get in the way of another great giveaway. Today, we have two passes (for two people each) to The Gifted Hand Fine Art and Craft Show, which takes place Nov. 13 and 14 in Ellsworth. We'll tell you how to enter at the end of this post. In the meantime, let's discuss the show.

The Gifted Hand truly is one of the best high-end craft shows in Maine. It's been written up everywhere, including Boston.com, and with good reason: it brings together some the state's most talented and interesting artisans in one place. This year's event will feature a cafe by Cleonice and Table bistros — that alone is worth the trip — as well as live music by Native American flutist Hawk Henries, who will also sell handcrafted wooden flutes.

We're looking forward to browsing the wares of more than 50 vendors, some of whom we've never seen before. Among the familiar favorites are Steve Desmond of Perfect Impression Gifts, who creates stunning hardwood cutting boards; Christine Leith of Eggemoggin Textiles, whose handwoven scarves are incredibly luxurious; chic felted woolens by Sandy Spiller of Essentially Felt; adorable puppets by Christina Heiniger of Fern House Studio; and stylish, incredibly well-made bags by Maureen Buzzeo of Maureen Elizabeth Handbags (pictured).

The show takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Holiday Inn on High Street in Ellsworth. A portion of the admission fee will benefit Birdsacre sanctuary in Ellsworth. For more information, visit www.giftedhandshow.com

To enter, please send an e-mail to kristen@mainemaven.com with your name, mailing address and a sentence or two about your favorite Maine product or artisan. All entries must be received by midnight on Friday, Nov. 6, and a winner will be chosen at random.
