To-Do List, 10.2.09

We're on the verge of peak foliage here in Orono, and we're hoping this weekend's storms won't blow all the color away, because next weekend will be absolutely perfect for a leaf-peeping trip. Until then, here are a few things to keep you busy...

Eat ME
We are absolutely DYING to try Table in Blue Hill, a farm-to-table bistro owned by Rich and Cary Hanson of Cleonice fame. Since the parents are in town this weekend, a trip to the coast is inevitable, so a little convincing may be in order. Fondue and Lobster Pot Au Feu beckon. In the meantime, read Jon Levitt's great article about Rich Hanson in maine. magazine.
When: Brunch, lunch or dinnertime
Where: 66 Main St., Blue Hill
Web: FarmKitchenTable.com

Drink ME
In honor of UMaine's football game against Delaware Saturday night, we're tempted not to fill the steins, but rather fill a Thermos with spiked mulled cider, just like we did in the old days. Back then, the Mavens chose Captain Morgan, but the October issue of Martha Stewart Living dresses it up a bit by adding a vanilla bean to the mulling mix and adding bourbon instead of our old standby. Classy.
When: Saturday night.
Where: Tailgating in a UMaine parking lot.
Web: the recipe is online at Mixingbowl.com

Run with ME
Lewiston is many things, but a weekend getaway destination is not one of them. Still, there is one great reason to go there on Sunday: The Dempsey Challenge. Patrick Dempsey's inaugural fundraising race has been such a success that registration for new walkers, runners and cyclists is now closed and the organizers haven't been able to process all the donations yet. Still, you can volunteer for a good cause and join in the fun — all proceeds benefit the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center.
When: 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4
Where: Lewiston, Auburn and beyond
Web: Dempsey Challenge

Read with ME
If you're anything like The Maven, opening a book is like unlocking a treasure chest for the imagination. Celebrate at the Bangor Book Festival. Highlights include the keynote by Douglas Preston, author of "The Monster of Florence," as well as panels featuring Native American historians Donna Loring, Donald Soctomah and Kathleen Mundell and local authors Wayne Reilly, Dick Shaw and Trudy Scee.
When: Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2 and 3.
Where: Various locations throughout downtown Bangor.
Web: Bangor Book Festival

Bead with ME
We're all about the Beads and Baubles Downeast show and sale in Ellsworth this weekend. Read more about it here.
When: noon-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.
Where: Holiday Inn, 125 High St., Ellsworth.
Web: Read more at Fern House Studio.
