Maine To-Do List: 10.30.09

You're putting the finishing touches on your Halloween costume (and, may we say, you look great in pleather). Yesterday, the kids changed their minds and told you they've decided to dress as a hot dog and bun — junior always has been a bit of a weenie. And you've been invited to so many parties this weekend that your calendar looks like a debutante's dance card. If you're able to step away from the sewing machine for a few minutes, here's what you should do:

Laugh at ME
Prepare to laugh your hyper-hynie off at Dickie Hyper-Hynie's Killer Halloween Show this weekend at the Oddfellow Theater. Fritz Grobe, Matthew Tardy, Moto Hoonchbach and Jason Tardy star in this rollicking variety show.
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 2:30 p.m. Saturday
Where: Oddfellow Theater, Buckfield
Web: http://www.oddfellow.com/

Eat ME
It may seem un-American. Or, at the very least, un-Maine. Still, we must admit that whoopie pies aren't our favorite. But since everything's better at Megunticook Market, we recommend the pumpkin-filled variety. Mmmm.
When: Through October (in other words, hurry)
Where: Megunticook Market, 2 Gould St., Camden
Web: www.megunticookmarket.com

Drink ME
Every Halloween, our friends bring their kids to our house claiming that they feel bad that we never get trick-or-treaters. But we secretly think they come for the wine (hey, it beats fruit punch at the elementary school party). This year, we're serving Dona Paula Los Cardos Malbec from Argentina.
When: Saturday night
Where: Anywhere that carries wines from Pine State Distributors (we buy ours at The Store in Orono)
Web: n/a

Scare ME
Get a few old-school thrills and chills, courtesy of Portland's Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ. FOKO will present the classic silent film "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" with live musical accompaniment by organist Scott Foppiano. Before the show, WMTW anchor Shannon Moss will judge a costume contest.
When: contest starts at 7 tonight (Friday); film starts at 7:30
Where: Merrill Auditorium, Portland
Web: www.foko.org
