Slates

This bistro in Hallowell, which burned in a 2007 and recently rose from the ashes bigger and better than ever, is the restaurant in Maine we visit most frequently. Though Slates offers a lovely, somewhat overwhelming selection of foods, we can't seem to get past brunch. Why? It's a wonderful place to linger over pomegranate mimosas and smoked shrimp Benedict. In fact, the founders of Maine Maven actually hatched the whole idea for this site at Slates one morning, dodging the wreckage of Huevos Rancheros to write down notes. Read More
