Skirting The Issue

Spring may be the time when a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love. But a young woman's fancy turns to thoughts of not wearing tights (or closed-toe shoes, for that matter) anymore.

Right about now, the Maven's thoughts are turning to these adorable skirts by Whimsy. She already owns one, but ever since she saw Kendra Haskell's newest line of skirts ($56), with their springlike fabrics and adorable trims, she wants more.

Since the Maven makes the entire cast of "Twilight" look tan, it will be a few weeks — OK, months — until she tosses aside the tights and shows her legs. But these skirts, made in Maine, are incentive enough to start slathering on the self-tanner. Pretty soon, her thoughts will be turning to love — of shopping for Maine-made goodies, that is.

Kendra Haskell's designs can be found at Studio on Main Street in Orono; One Lupine Fiber Arts (170 Park St., Bangor, 207.299.6716); Ember Grove Gallery (247-B Congress St., Portland, 207.761.0408); Wyler's (92 Exchange St., Portland, 207.775.075); and Bella Colore (27 Water St., Blue Hill, 207.374.5343). You can also find her work online at Etsy or at www.kendrahaskell.com.
