Card shark

Once again, you thought you'd go all Martha on the world and design your own Christmas cards. You bought all the glitter and crap to go on them. You even skipped Evil Craft Mart and headed to a local scrapbooking store to buy card stock.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Fortunately, the road to redemption is easy to find, and it starts at Christina Heiniger's door. For her Fern House Studio line, the Lamoine artist creates whimsical designs that evoke cut-rock candy. Even sweeter, they lend themselves to holiday cards. Go traditional and choose the red and green "Solstice Trees." Be holiday-neutral with the blue and white "Stars and Circles." Or go hippie-chic with the rainbows-and-dove design of "Peaceable Kingdom."

Just don't include one of those awful holiday letters. To be honest, nobody wants to know about Junior's honor roll feats, your dog's latest Best in Show win and hubby's promotion. Keep that up, and you might just get a "return to sender." After all that work.

Fern House Studio cards cost $2.50 each or $12 for a six-pack. For a list of galleries and shops that carry Heiniger's work, or to order online, clickhere.
