Maine To-Do List: 12.18.09

You haven't even started your Christmas shopping, and all the crafts and baking you intended to do? Well, let's just say Martha doesn't have anything to worry about. At this point, you can do one of two things: Head to the mall and know you'll be spending the better part of the next two days stuck in traffic; or, pour yourself a stiff glass of eggnog and hope for the best. You know what we'd do. And if you choose the latter, here are a few things to take your mind off the fact that you're a holiday slacker.

Eat ME
Lots of people make bark at the holidays. Most of them don't make bark as good as the gourmet offerings from Black Dinah Chocolatiers of Isle Au Haut. Wow your friends and family with lavender, ancho chile and peanut coffee flavors.
When: Overnight
Where: Click here for a list of purveyors on the mainland.
Web: Order online at www.blackdinahchocolatiers.com.

Drink ME
The weather outside is frightful, but good beer is so delightful. Raise a toast to subzero temperatures with a bottle of Geary's Winter Ale.
When: After 5, kids.
Where: Your neighborhood package store.
Web: www.gearybrewing.com

Elf ME
Nothing says "Christmas" like a gutter-mouthed, chain-smoking, booze-swilling Jewish elf — who can't stand kids. There's still time to catch Domenick Varney's performance of David Sedaris' hilarious play at Penobscot Theatre Company in Bangor.
When: Through Dec. 27
Where: Bangor Opera House, 131 Main St., Bangor
Web: Penobscottheatre.org

Shop ME
Who cares if you're a slacker? There's still time to stock up on Maine-made goodness at the HFS Annex "Petite Revolution" holiday fair. Some of our favorite artisans, including Lofted Designs and LovingAnvil (pictured ring), will be there with hip holiday goods. Plus, Brooklyn DJ The Amazing Spirit Bear will spin — which beats canned Christmas music any day.
When: noon-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19
Where: 140 main St., Suite 107, Biddeford
Web: www.hogfarmstudios.com

Get Naughty with ME
Think "The Nutcracker" is sweet? Check out the "Nutcracker Burlesque" — a decidedly grown-up twist on the classic. It's presented by Vivid Motion, a Portland-based company that believes dance needn't be elitist or stuffy. Love that.
When: There's a waiting list for the 8 p.m. Saturday show, which is sold out, but another show has been added at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22.
Where: St. Lawrence Arts and Community Center, 76 Congress St., Portland
Web: www.nutcrackerburlesque.com.
