In 1996, five Amish families parked their buggy in Smyrna Mills and decided to stay. The settlement has since grown, and the families have created several thriving businesses, including Sturdi-Built (sheds, camps and playhouses); Kauffman Metals (siding and roofs); and Pioneer Place U.S.A. (general store). Located about 10 minutes south of Houlton, the Amish settlement is truly a destination for fine craftsmanship and a step back in time.
