To-Do List 8.29.09

Well, it looks like Danny boy has arrived in Maine. Let's just hope the summer's not gone for good. Weather or not, we have a busy weekend planned: It's move in weekend for UMaine students here in Orono and a dear friend of ours has a bridal shower this afternoon. Here's what we'd like to do in our downtime:

Eat ME
Jason harvested a few barely ripe apples from our mini-orchard yesterday, and they were perfect on Ina Garten's beautiful fruit tart — even better topped with vanilla ice cream from Houlton Farms Dairy.
When: As soon as you see ripe apples
Where: Your kitchen
Web: Food Network

Drink ME
There's a hint of fall in the air, and these cool (and, with the exception of Saturday's weather) clear evenings are perfect for kicking back on the deck and stargazing. A glass of Winterport Winery's crisp Back Porch sparkling cider is a wonderful accompaniment.
When: Anytime
Where: Click here for a list of retailers.
Web: Winterport Winery

Read ME
The inaugural issue of Maine. magazine has hit the stands, and it's quite gorgeous (not to mention a great read). We may be biased, as The Maven has a column in there, but see for yourself.
When: Whenever
Where: Newsstands
Web: Maine

Listen to ME
It was bound to happen sometime: rain on the weekend of the American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront. But that won't dampen the festivities. It's tents-only today, but it will still be a rollicking celebration of American folk music and arts.
When: noon-10:30 p.m. Saturday, noon-5 Sunday.
Where: Bangor Waterfront
Web: American Folk Festival
