To-Do List

Nice day for ducks. Since it doesn't look like golf, gardening or a trip to camp are in the forecast, The Maven offers up the following indoor diversions for your weekend enjoyment. Use in moderation.

Eat ME
What: Chilly days like this call for comfort food, and we can't think of anything more delicious than a roast chicken from Mainely Poultry.
Where: We get ours at the farmers market, but they're sold throughout Maine.
Whatnot: We stuff fresh rosemary and lemon slices between the skin and the bird, rub down the outside with butter, salt and pepper then toss more rosemary in the cavity. The Maven's dad cooks his with Al Roker's BBQ Rub: 6 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed; 2 tablespoons chili powder; 1 tablespoon paprika; 1 tablespoon garlic powder; 2 teaspoons onion powder; 2 teaspoons coarse salt; 2 teaspoons ground cumin; 1 teaspoon cinnamon; 1 teaspoon ground pepper; 1/2 teaspoon cayenne. Rub down the bird and slow roast.
When: Chicken tonight, sandwiches tomorrow.

Drink ME
What: We can't stop thinking about the mimosas from Slates in Hallowell. Every time we go, there's a different offering on the menu, and they come to the table in a hurricane glass, looking like something that fell off Carmen Miranda's hat. Recently, the mimosas have included Mango Tango, Blueberry Mint and our favorite, Pomegranate, which we've been making at home.
Where: Slates, 167 Water St., Hallowell (or at home)
When: Brunchtime.
Whatnot: Our recipe isn't quite as good as Slates, but it's close. To make, dip the rim of a champagne glass in lime juice and flavored sugar (we like the blood orange variety from Stirrings). Pour in 2 parts prosecco (Zardetto and Jeio work well) and 1 part pomegranate juice (Pomagrand from Odwalla or Pom Wonderful both do the trick). Or you could try the pictured recipe from Pom Wonderful, which includes Cointreau, too. Garnish garishly. Enjoy.

Cover ME
What: One of the quirkiest things we've seen in Maine is the World's Only Umbrella Cover Museum. Its mission is to celebrate the mundane in everyday life, including the lowly umbrella cover — that little cylinder of fabric or clear plastic that you promptly lose when you buy a new umbrella.
Where: Peaks Island or, stay home and view the virtual exhibit here.
When: Whenever

Experiment With ME
What: When your kids want to do science experiments at home, it kind of freaks you out. But Mad Science has turned it into theater. And the best part is, you don't need to clean up the mess afterward.
When: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30
Where: St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress St., Portland
Web: www.stlawrencearts.org; www.madscience.com.

Razor ME
What: Looking for the worst pies in London? Look no further than the Portland Players' production of "Sweeney Todd — The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."
When: 8 p.m. Saturday, May 30; 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 31.
Where: 420 Cottage Road, South Portland
Web: www.portlandplayers.org.
