Madras World

With the possible exception of seersucker, does anything scream "summer" like Madras?

It's a classic — one we keep coming back to over the years (The Maven recalls wearing a particularly flamboyant Madras blazer — with white pants and stunningly teased hair — in one ill-fated senior picture).

Jenna Sisselman of Cape Madras shares our love for the brightly colored plaid patchwork from India. Fortunately for her, she does not share The Maven's early '90s fashion sense. Sisselman calls Cape Elizabeth, Maine, home, and one day, while flipping through a 1960s yearbook, she decided to revive the preppy staple with modern, flattering cuts.

Sisselman jetted off to India, collected samples and got to work. Today, Cape Madras runs its own factory in rural India and sells the line at more than 500 stores nationwide — click here for a full list of stores in Maine.

We adore this little sundress, and for the guys, the Bermudas can't be beat. If you're really mad about plaid, Cape Madras makes yoga balls and duvet covers. There's even a Madras blazer. But we're not going to relive that big-haired yearbook memory.
