Baby, It's A Mad World

You want to embrace the idea of eco-fashion, but you're not quite cut out for oatmeal-colored cotton, awkwardly retooled vintage and flowing hippie pants.

Madgirl World's. designs hit the spot — the G spot, that is.

Get your mind out of the gutter — the G stands for green. And whether you're wearing a Super G tee (Ani DiFranco has been spotted on stage in one — twice, actually) a See Madness hoodie or a pair of Mad Girl undies, it is easy being green.

In honor of Earth Day, we celebrate Meredith Alex, the mad genius behind Madgirl World. To make a long story short, Meredith grew up in midcoast Maine, went to CALarts, came back, worked for Waterfall Arts in Belfast for years, and now calls Portland home. She was a semifinalist on "Project Runway." And though she's pint-size in stature, she has style by the mile.

We've loved Meredith's work since 2003, when we experienced one of her fashion installations for the first time — it was a kaleidoscope of paint chips and pom-poms, glitter and polka dots. Later, she created a site-specific installation at Waterfall Arts, which included a dress fashioned of birch bark.

Though her Super G line is a bit more practical for everyday wear, it still incorporates all of the things we love about Meredith: her attention to detail, amazing fit and, of course, her trademark sense of humor. Case in point? A G-Spot thong.

Thanks to Madgirl World — on Earth Day and every other day — you can wear your eco-friendly heart on your sleeve. Or your butt.

Meredith also creates custom bridal gowns and one-of-a-kind couture. For more information or to order, click here.
