Ray of Sunshine

How do we love Ray LaMontagne? Let us count the ways.

We love him to the depth and breadth and height
his voice can reach/he's really out of sight.

OK, enough. Although we could wax poetic about LaMontagne all day, nobody wants to hear it. Better to just listen to his soulful, gravelly voice on his latest album, "Gossip in the Grain."

LaMontagne's story is the stuff of legend. In a nutshell, he quit his job at a shoe factory in Lewiston to pursue his passion for music. We can't say we blame him, and we're so glad he did. For what it's worth, so are John Mayer, Jennifer Aniston and the geniuses behind Fox TV's "Fringe" — "Be Here Now" was featured a few episodes ago. You can hear him live on NPR's "World Cafe" with David Dye on Dec. 12.

Never heard of him? Check out his Web site, www.raylamontagne.com. We promise you'll love him. Like the Dickinson.
